Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese name consisting Rei and Ki known as Universal Life Energy. It is a technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing.
General
Regular use of Reiki leads to an increase in general vitality, wellbeing and a sense of inner peace. However, you should consult a traditional medical practitioner first and use Reiki as a wonderful addition to conventional treatment but should not be used in place of it.
What to expect of the treatment?
At the first appointment the practitioner will carry out a consultation to determine the medical history and to find out what the client is hoping to achieve from receiving Reiki. You may then be asked to remove shoes, jewellery and glasses. Other than that you will remain fully clothed, lying on a treatment table or sitting comfortably supported in a chair. A treatment can last up to an hour - usually a session lasts 45 minutes.
The Reiki practitioner places her/his hands on the client, the touch is light and without pressure. Reiki will also work if the hands are held few inches above the body. Each position is held for about 2-5 minutes or until the practitioner feels the energy flow is sufficient for that particular area of the body.
You may feel tingling in your body or the flow of Reiki through your body, the practitioner's hands may feel exceptionally warm to you, you may see colours or you may not feel anything extraordinary at all. You may even fall aslepp during the treatment.
After treatment
How a client feels after a Reiki session is as individual as the person receiving Reiki. Most people report deep state of relaxation and a feeling of wellbeing. Many people report feeling both - relaxed and energised. Sleeping patterns improve and stress levels reduce. Some have symptoms of de-toxification, others feel worse before they feel better. Toxins that have been stored in the liver and kidneys will be removed from the system which can lead to headache or stomach ache or a feeling of weakness. If this happens it is good to drink more water, eat light meals and rest more.
I now offer my Reiki sessions at the Wokingham Therapy Clinic every Thursday evening.
